How to Style Baggy Jeans

“Don’t be into trends. Don’t make fashion own you, but you decide what you are, what you want to express by the way you dress and the way you live.”
– Gianni Versace

Some people frown upon the use of incorporating very casual and common Baggy jeans (a.k.a. mom jeans) into their personal style, simply because it tends make one look lazy and sluggish, depicting the individual as careless in their way of style.

Stylish Ways to wear baggy jeans

However, some people adore them, not only for being so complacent to wear, but also for its ability to be versatile for almost all forms of style: being paired up in any way with any form clothing and still manage to appear pleasant and Stylish – and I just happen to one of those people that think this way.

Today I’m here to show you some of my favorite stylish ways that one can wear these admirable bottoms, so as to turn your look from appearing lazy and unflattering to attractive and stunning.

The Casual Look

This look is the simplest(and most orthodox) way of using baggy jeans. It consist of the trousers being used with a T-shirt and sneakers.

To make this look more appealing, I would rather style it with a graphic t-shirt (or just one with a design or text) so as to prevent the outfit from emerging as bland.

Additionally, I made use of a pair of shades and mini backpack to give it something a little extra – accessorizing can go long way to making your attire go from fail to fantastic.

The Fancy Look

This look is one I just recently discovered: putting together the baggy jeans, a lavish crop top, heels and some cute accessories.

Stylish Ways to wear Baggy jeans

The crop top and heels serves as sort of contrast to the ever basic baggy jeans. Adding these create a more feminine and chic use of the baggy jeans. Also for this style in particular, the bigger the jeans, the better the attire looks.

For accessorize I kept it neutral with some clear heels, allowing the red purse to bring about a limited but also needed pop of color. One can use this look for classy or basic situations such as, meeting with friends, going out for events(like if you want to make your ex jealous at a party), or simply just running errands.

The Snazzy Look

Now for this look, I have combined the mom jeans with a blouse and a blazer. Just like in the sporty look,

Stylish Ways to wear Baggy Jeans

I combined the jeans with a patterned blazer, which makes the outfit appear more exuberant and vibrant as opposed to a plain jacket which would make the outfit boring and basic – which is not what we want.

This look has the combination of a woman who means business and also one who simply wants to feel relaxed in her hectic day to day schedule in her office.

This look doesn’t have to be used for the office alone, but those times when you want to look formal but you don’t necessarily have to wear a suit.

I hope now you are able to realise that baggy jeans aren’t only for people who are slothful and dull. You don’t have to stick to the basic styles that you see all over the internet. You even don’t have to stick with these outfits alone.

We are all different people, so that’s why you owe it to yourself to find what works for you. So try mixing & matching different clothes together with your baggy jeans and find what you love, but always remember, never be satisfied with mediocrity especially when there is room for improvement.

So what do you think of the outfits?

What do you think about adding baggy jeans to your way of style? Do you consider them to be fashionable, or do you see them as basic and boring?

Pink & Red Do Work Together

“I think there is beauty in everything. What ‘normal’ people would perceive as ugly, I can usually see something of beauty in it.”
– Alexander McQueen

Pink and Red: both fun colors to use, but at the same time one has to be cautious when using each of them so as not to look like a hot mess. So that’s one of the reasons why it is rather difficult to pair the two in an attire.

It’s funny that although pink and red are similar, most would agree that the thought of both of them together may appear uncanny and ridiculous; pairing the two up might even be known as a “fashion don’t.”

How to wear red and pink

Well, as you may have found out from my blog posts, I don’t necessarily like to follow the rules when it comes to fashion and my personal style – which is why I have chosen to wear Red and Pink together.

Truth be told, this trend of blending in the two is becoming rather popular. In fact, the other day I saw a dress by Red Valentino that was pink with red hearts on it.

How to wear pink and red

However, before you start planning out your pink and red outfit, let me give you a secret tip on how you can look attractive in your ensemble:

Pale Pink and Bold Red.

Using the pale pink and bold red brings about a sort of balance in your outfit: while you have the bold red that grabs your attention, the presence of the pale pink is subtle, not so “attention grabbing” but also hard to miss. And for accessorize, I kept it simple and neutral to give a bit of contrast to my vivid clothing choice.

So knowing this, don’t be scared to mix Red and pink in once in a while. However, if you’re not interested in using the colors in clothes, you can start small – and safe – by using them as accessorize.

How to wear Red and Pink

Don’t be stuck in your own style bubble and try something new. Someone once said, “Fashion is like eating, you shouldn’t stick to the same menu.” Therefore, try a different menu, in a different restaurant. Life is too short to do the same thing over and over again.

So what are your thoughts on the outfit?

Do you think the Red & Pink can work together or would you rathere just keep them apart?

“Real style is never right or wrong. It’s a matter of being yourself on purpose.”
– G. Bruce Boyer

When I was younger, I would look at some of the outfits on the runway, and I would see them as bizarre and peculiar: I watched the models strut down the runway and all I would think was “who would actually wear such an uncanny attire?”

On the other hand, I’ve grown to realize that those outfits that I found so weird are works of art just like every other fashion piece.

Our way of style is how we put forth our very own creative pieces to the world using clothing, jewelry and accessorize.

We should feel free to express our creative side no matter how unorthodox others may find it, because when it comes to style it’s not black and white, rather there are millions of colors for us to choose from – and even mix together.

For instance, in this outfit here, it unites elements of clothing that would normally not be considered together; I mean a pencil and high heels are a norm but with socks, that might be most people’s tipping point.

Although an outfit idea might not sound right to most, as long as you are happily expressing your stylish and creative side in a way that you adore (and not hurting anyone in the process), it’s alright. Plus, the result of your unusual blend might surprise you for the better.

So even though there are those people who may frown upon your way of style, remember it’s YOUR STYLE and should be YOUR WAY.

Besides, it seems like the world of today is bored and tired off the same old thing all the time (I know I am).

So as NWA said “Express Yourself” no matter how many people don’t appreciate it.

So what are your thoughts on the outfit?

What do you think about using something odd in your outfits?Do you see yourself bringing together different elements of clothing to make an attire?

Pink Suits Him

.

“Everyone looks better and more alive in a pink shirt.”
—Michael Bastian

It has become a stereotype that pink is for girls and them alone. Since I was young, I have seen boys being pushed away from the color, making them avoid the color at all costs, whether in clothes, amenities or even food! Most times, I see guys get hesitant when the color is even suggested.

Nevertheless, pink is just a color – a very nice color to say the least, especially when worn, and guys should not loath the color but give it a try from time to time. It might surprise you how charming you look, just like this gentleman here.

Many people perceive pink as a feminine color, but did you know that it used to be masculine and popular among guys? I was actually shocked when I first saw this and did my research.

Apparently, pink was considered a “warlike color” since it was a diminutive of red. You would find the men of the past in pink silk suits that had floral embroideries. Even imagining this seems surreal! Not that it doesn’t happen now, but it’s so rare – almost unorthodox.

But I believe we can bring the trend back if the lovely men of the world just embrace the color whenever they can instead of avoiding it at all costs, which is sadly what we find in today’s society.

Even though we’ve been raised to believe that a particular color is for a particular gender doesn’t mean we should accept it – we are older and (hopefully) wiser individuals who are capable of making our own decisions.

Who says we can’t break out of the barriers that society has set for us?

Experiment with your style! Always seek to grow and to improve, not only in your fashion sense but in all aspects of life.

So to those guys (and girls) who always discard pink, give it a try: it’s fun and suits everyone.

So what are your thoughts on the outfit?

How do you feel about incorporating pink into your outfits? Is it something you already do or do you think it’s impossible for you to do?

Oh and one more thing, this is my last post…

Well until August, I’m going to be having exams all through July so pardon my absence.

But stay tuned because I’ll be coming back with some great and fresh looks for you all: the best for the best.

I love you and thanks for the support. Later loves.

Snug and Stunning

“A woman is never sexier than when she is comfortable in her clothes.”
– Vera Wang

Some people have this perception that the more you suffer for an outfit, the better it is.  They could literally be in pain, but as long they look good, that’s all that matters–they’ll be making others believe that they feel amazing, not knowing that their outfit is actually a burden. Suffering and Smiling.

But I’m here to say that you don’t have to ‘break your back’ to be able to get the right outfit-whether financial, physically or otherwise. You can be stylish AND comfortable.

Comfort has always been a major thing for me when picking an outfit – I don’t even consider it if I am not pleased with how it makes me feel. For instance, I personally don’t like excessively tight and revealing clothing, so no matter what I make sure I always have a loose piece of clothing on. So if I want to wear skinny jeans, I would wear a loose top, just to give it some sort of balance.

And for this outfit, as you can see, you can look just as glamorous in sweats! Just accessorize the outfit to your preference and there you go – your comfy and cute look!

There are those situations where your attire is attractive, but you can’t even enjoy it because of how bad it makes you feel. You may look great in those gorgeous heels, but your feet ache with every step. Those designer skinny jeans may bring out the perfect shape of your butt, but you can barely walk in them due to their tightness. Your brand new Nike Air Forces may make you envied by all your classmates, but it gives your feet bunions.

Your style shouldn’t bring you discomfort. You owe it to yourself to look and feel great. Express your creative style and make sure it’s not only visually pleasant  but allows you to feel fabulous as well.

So what are your thoughts on the outfit?

How would you have styled it, which color would you use, what clothing type would you prefer, or which other way would you have gone in creating a snug and stunning Style?

You guys are free to share your thoughts and more in the comment section below. I would love to see them and get a chance to interact with you, and if you have any question, just let me know.

Well that’s all…for now at least. I’ll see you guys next time. God bless.

African Queen

“You are my African Queen, the girl of my dreams. And you remind me of a thing and that is the African beauty”
– 2baba Idibia

I saw this tweet advising African designers to use more of “African Print Fabrics” a.k.a. ‘Ankara’. In the post, it showed some pictures from Dior’s latest Resort collection, which featured clothes in Ankara prints (at least they looked like it).

Honestly, I was astonished; to see a widely recognized brand like Dior make use of such, it made me appreciate this textile the more.

So in appreciation of African Style and simply being from this blessed continent (Nigeria to be precise), I styled this straight-forward but glamorous look, exuding the true African essence in a lady.

The amazing thing about Ankara is that, even just a piece of it on an outfit seems to bring the whole look together, make the ensemble appear more like a work of art.

Like in this look for instance; if it was a plain and dull print, the attire may appear unappealing.

But with the vibrant, authentic print of this fabric, one’s attire will always have a playful and stunning feel to it.

One wonderful thing about Ankara is that you can incorporate it in whatever type of style you choose to go for. For instance, this certain outfit can be used for several outings: out with friends, school, on a date, you could even use it to go and get groceries!

Whether it is used as an accessory (like the bag used in my last post), or in the full attire, like this one here, it not only makes you appear joyous and alluring, it gives you a feel of eminence and who wouldn’t want to feel that?

So don’t be shy and experiment with the different prints of Ankara: bright, dark, monochrome, multicolored, go crazy!

Do you, and let your choice make you not only look like royalty, but allow you to feel like the Queen you are – an African Queen.

So what your thoughts about the outfit?

How would you have styled it, which print or color would you prefer, or which other way would you have gone in creating a perfect Ankara Style?

Alright so I’ll see you guys in the next one. Later loves.

Ms. Elite

“Style is a way to say who you are without having to speak.”
—Rachel Zoe

Some still believe that a woman should rely on a man financially. They see women as money hungry individuals “always begging on a n***a!” a statement I hear more times than I would want to. Some women end up accepting this ideology because of how often it is repeated, making them see it as an impossibility for a woman to succeed without at least one man providing for her.

Well, I’m here to say, that mindset is COMPLETELY false. And I would use this opportunity to introduce Ms. Elite.

Ms. Elite isn’t one of those rich clichés you read about in stories or watch on reality tv: she is a sophisticated, independent entrepreneur who built her business from the ground up, without the aid of a man. She knows exactly what she wants and works her way to attain it.

She is a smart woman who takes her work seriously while still enjoying the pleasantries of life. Whether she’s attending a business meeting or on vacation in a tropical paradise, she still keeps her choice in outfits refined, yet tasteful, letting her style speak for her: a swank, self-made woman who means business but likes to have fun.

So why not bring out your opulent self?

You may not have a life like Ms. Elite, but that shouldn’t stop you from expressing your inner “poshness”. You can even get inspiration from some of your favorite women whom you appreciate and look up to.

You can even be creative and come-up with new styles displaying your elegance in an unorthodox but stunning manner.

So try new lavish outfits – like this one for instance – making you feel like the high-class lady you are, who needs no man to administer to her every need, but rather, is her own ‘bread-winner’ and providing for herself like she should.

So what are your thoughts on the outfit?

How would you have styled it, would you have used more or fewer accessories, or which other way would you have gone in creating a high-class outfit?

You guys are free to share your thoughts and more in the comment section below. I would love to see them and get a chance to interact with you.

So good bye for now loves, and I’ll see you next time.

She’s the Boss.

“We should be dressed like such and addressed like such.”
-Unknown

Being a boss is more than having the right thing to say and knowing when to say it: it’s also about exuding confidence, class and grandeur so as to be the epitome of elegance that all others strive to be. Those are the qualities I see when I look at this outfit.

Every day, I walk down the corridors of my University, and then I see some guys looking dapper and dashing in such amazing outfits. But the problem is, this outfit (the Jacket and turtleneck) is so common between guys that it is even becoming a stereotype. So I thought to myself, why not see this look in a whole new way: why not have a girl wear it?
Putting this look together seemed quite risky, since it’s rarely ever seen on females, but the risk was worth it. After all, isn’t being a risk taker a characteristic of being a boss?

Sometimes, difference and originality are needed to create a master piece. You don’t always have to necessarily follow the ways of others.

You can accessorize your outfit with the weirdest of ornaments, and it will be those ornaments that make the outfit magnificent. Take the beret for instance; people barely wear them anymore, but it made a major impact in bringing forth the allurement of the ensemble.

So next time you see a style you like but it may not be accepted by others, why not just put it together and try it on? Or if you see an eccentric-looking accessory or clothing item, but you find it interesting and cool, why not use it?

You never know what you like if you don’t take the risk to find out. Who knows, you might even end up being the trendsetter the world has been yearning for – an essence of a boss!

So what are your thoughts on the outfit?

How would you have styled it, would you have used more or fewer accessories, or which other style would you have used to capture your inner boss?

You guys are free to share your thoughts and more in the comment section below. I would love to see them and get a chance to interact with you.

Why a Fashion and Style Blog?

Do you know that feeling when you truly love something(or someone), and when you’re asked to explain why you do, you become speechless? It’s not because you have nothing to say, rather, there’s so much to say but you just don’t know where to start from. That is exactly how I feel about Fashion.

Fashion and style to me is more than just some simple hobby or pass time: it consumes me every day.

You can ask my roommate how long it takes me to pick the right outfit for school. I don’t do this because I have to(or because of my indecisiveness), but it’s like there’s this inner peace in me when I pick out the right outfit that not only looks bomb AF but feels great to be in as well.

So I thought, since I love styling myself so much why not just create my own Fashion and style blog where I can be able to share these styles and outfits with the world? The passion is there, I love writing, put them both together(with consistency and great content) you have an amazing blog, which is what I would like to achieve.

So here I am, 9:02 pm, sitting in my dorm’s study room, -finally- writing this article when I should be studying(I’ll just study later).

So yeah, Hi I’m Chika Yvonne, and welcome to my Fashion and style blog: Chika Styled This(CTS for short), where I basically style outfits, take pictures of those styles, upload them here and talk about why I styled the outfits -believe me, its more exciting than it seems!

I look forward to sharing my styles to you lovely people and hoping to interact with you as well.
